Social media influencer Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkman (VDM), has thrust the mysterious death of Nigerian singer Mohbad back into the spotlight. On October 10, 2024, just weeks after the first anniversary of Mohbad’s untimely passing, VDM released a controversial video that has reignited public interest in the unresolved case.

As the sun set over Lagos, Nigeria’s entertainment hub, VDM’s video spread like wildfire across social media platforms. The content creator, known for his outspoken nature, boldly claimed that justice for Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, remains elusive more than a year after his death on September 12, 2023.

It’s been 13 months, and we’re no closer to the truth,” VDM stated in his video, which has garnered over 500,000 views in just hours. The music industry has moved on, but Mohbad’s family still seeks closure.

In his provocative address, VDM pointed fingers at Mohbad’s former employer, Naira Marley, and associate Sam Larry. He alleged that these individuals possess crucial information about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death but have failed to come forward.

There’s more to this story than what we’ve seen in that cropped video,” VDM asserted, referring to footage that circulated online shortly after Mohbad’s passing. The mistreatment Mohbad endured was far more extensive than what the public knows.

The video has sparked intense debate across Nigerian social media. While some applaud VDM for keeping the case in the public eye, others criticize his approach and question his motives.

Twitter user @dunma_ expressed support, commenting, “The young man sang his pains and intimidation. We saw the parents kneeling to beg. Dev!lish man.”

However, not all reactions were positive. @teeto__olayeni lashed out, “Can you just shut the fvck up????????? Were you not among the people who turned everything upside down????? FVCKING MANIPULATOR!!!!”

Legal expert Barrister Olumide Akpata, speaking to our correspondent, cautioned against trial by social media. While it’s important to keep seeking justice, we must be careful about making unsubstantiated claims,” he advised. “The official investigation is ongoing, and speculation can hinder the process.”

The Nigerian Police Force has yet to comment on VDM’s latest allegations. However, a source close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that new leads are being pursued.

As night falls over Lagos, the controversy stirred by VDM’s video serves as a stark reminder that the wounds left by Mohbad’s death are far from healed. The young singer’s fanbase, still active and vocal, continues to demand answers.

As the debate rages on, one thing is clear the mystery surrounding Mohbad’s death continues to captivate and divide Nigeria’s entertainment community. Whether VDM’s latest intervention will lead to new developments or simply stir up old controversies remains to be seen.
