Lagos, Nigeria, April 4, 2024 – Following comprehensive repairs, the Third Mainland Bridge, a critical artery connecting Lagos mainland to various parts of the state, has officially reopened, as confirmed by the Lagos State Government. In light of this development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic regulations while navigating the newly refurbished bridge.
Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for LASTMA, in a statement released on Wednesday, emphasized the importance of observing all traffic signs and the newly installed technological devices aimed at enhancing traffic management on the bridge. “Motorists must be conscious of time and plan their journey ahead to avoid unnecessary speeding,” Taofiq cautioned, underlining the commitment of LASTMA to ensure the safety of all bridge users.
The announcement of the bridge’s reopening was made by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, who detailed the completion of extensive repair works on the bridge, marking the end of a phase that required motorists to seek alternative routes. “Dear Lagos residents, we’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs,” Osiyemi shared via an X account statement.
In preparation for the increased traffic flow expected with the reopening, LASTMA has announced the deployment of additional personnel, patrol cars, and recovery vehicles on the bridge. This measure is designed to guarantee drivers’ safety and provide prompt rescue actions if necessary. “The agency would deploy more men and patrol and recovery vehicles to ensure the safety of motorists and timely rescue intervention on the bridge,” Taofiq further stated.
