Police Nab Four Fake EFCC Officials Behind Nasarawa Student Robbery And Kidnapping The Hype Naija

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended four individuals impersonating operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These imposters stand accused of robbing students of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa and kidnapping a National Diploma II (ND II) student, Adudu Kingsley.

The arrest, which comes after a daring operation by the police, puts an end to the criminal activities of a gang that had instilled fear amongst students residing at Samakwe Lodge, behind Government College, Nasarawa LGA.

The Incident Unfolds

According to Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, the incident unfolded on April 17, 2024, at approximately 3:45 PM. A distress call alerted the police to the presence of four individuals posing as EFCC personnel. These imposters, travelling in a green Toyota Corolla with Abuja registration number YAB 509 TT, reportedly accosted students residing at Samakwe Lodge.

Nansel further explained that the fake EFCC officials robbed the students before abducting Adudu Kingsley. Refusing to be cowed by the criminals’ tactics, the police acted with commendable alacrity.

The Hot Pursuit

“Reacting to this unsavoury development,” Nansel said, “police operatives gave the suspects a hot chase.” This immediate response highlights the Nasarawa State Police Command’s commitment to protecting its citizens and ensuring the safety of the community.

The statement elaborated on the pursuit, revealing that officers strategically placed a roadblock at Laminga junction to prevent the suspects’ escape with their captive. Determined to evade capture, the gang rammed the barricade in a desperate attempt to flee. However, their recklessness proved futile, as they were eventually apprehended by the police.

Commendable Bravery and Professionalism

Nansel commended the bravery of the officers involved in the operation, stating, “The police operatives exhibited courage and exceptional professionalism during the chase, leading to the arrest of the suspects.” He added that an investigation into the gang’s criminal activities is ongoing, with the aim of uncovering any potential accomplices.

The spokesperson also revealed that incriminating evidence linking the suspects to the crime was recovered during a search of their vehicle. “While the police searched the recovered vehicle,” Nansel disclosed, “two identification cards linking the fleeing suspects to the syndicate were found.” This vital evidence strengthens the case against the imposters and serves as a reminder of the meticulousness of the Nasarawa State Police Force.

A Warning to Criminals and Safety Tips for Citizens

The arrest of these fake EFCC officials is a significant victory for law enforcement in Nasarawa State. It sends a clear message that criminal activity will not be tolerated and that those who prey on innocent citizens will be brought to justice. This incident also serves as a stark warning to students and the general public to be wary of individuals impersonating legitimate authorities.
