ABUJA, Nigeria – In a significant development, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of eight individuals linked to the grievous ambushes in Ughelli, Delta State, that led to the deaths of six police officers, with six more still unaccounted for. The attacks, which occurred on the 23rd and 26th of February 2024, targeted officers on a fact-finding mission and a subsequent rescue operation.

The initial arrest of five suspects shortly after the incidents, followed by three more arrests at various locations, has been pivotal in the ongoing investigation. The cooperation and statements from those initially detained have been crucial in apprehending the additional suspects, underscoring the effectiveness of the police’s investigative efforts.

Currently held in custody, these suspects are aiding the police with valuable information that is expected to unravel the full extent of this brutal act and lead to further actions to bring all involved to justice. The Nigeria Police Force is resolute in its commitment to ensuring swift and decisive legal proceedings against those behind these attacks, emphasizing that credible evidence will be presented in court once the investigation reaches its conclusion.

The Force expressed profound sorrow over the loss of their officers, extending their deepest condolences to the bereaved families. “Our officers were fulfilling their sworn duty to protect and serve our communities when they were mercilessly taken from us,” stated ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.

In a strong message to perpetrators of violence against law enforcement, ACP Adejobi declared, “The killers of our officers have not only attacked individuals but have assaulted the peace and security of our society. Rest assured, they will face the full weight of the law.”

As the investigation progresses, the Nigeria Police Force vows to leave no stone unturned in seeking justice for the fallen officers and reasserting the rule of law.
