Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has launched a scathing attack on the Nigerian Police Force, accusing it of prioritizing the protection of influential politicians over the safety of ordinary citizens.

Adeyanju revealed that a mere 13,000 police officers are currently engaged in combatting the rampant banditry and terrorism plaguing the country. Meanwhile, a staggering 130,000 officers are assigned to protect politicians, leaving vast swathes of the nation vulnerable to criminal activities.

It’s a disgrace,” Adeyanju declared, his voice laced with frustration. While Nigerians are being terrorized, their police force is busy pampering politicians. This is a national embarrassment.”

The activist’s comments come as the country grapples with a surge in violent crime, including kidnappings, armed robberies, and attacks by armed groups. Many Nigerians have expressed growing disillusionment with the government’s perceived inability to address the security crisis.

Adeyanju further highlighted the absurdity of the situation, noting that even minor criminals can command significant police protection. In Nigeria,” he said, “a young man involved in cybercrime can have four or five policemen as his personal guards. It’s a travesty.”

The activist’s remarks have sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians echoing his concerns about the misuse of police resources. Some have called for a complete overhaul of the security apparatus, while others have demanded greater accountability from government officials.

As the country continues to grapple with its security challenges, Adeyanju’s criticism serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for reforms and a renewed commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.
