Lagos, Nigeria – In a significant stride towards transforming the urban mobility landscape, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has initiated a series of community engagement sessions as part of its collaboration with the Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) to implement major transport projects across Lagos. This development aims to revolutionize the public transportation sector in Nigeria’s bustling metropolis.

Under the auspices of AFD’s financial support, the projects include the introduction of Quality Bus Corridors (QBC) and the construction of two pivotal transport interchanges at Marina and Mile 2, promising to enhance the connectivity and efficiency of Lagos’s transport network.

Leading the initiative, Engr. Osa Konyeha, the Technical Adviser for Corporate and Investment Planning at LAMATA, spearheaded a delegation of engineers and a project consultant to the Iju/Abule Egba community. The engagement was centered around briefing the community members on the forthcoming infrastructural developments earmarked for their locale and soliciting their cooperation throughout the construction period of the QBC.

The introduction of Quality Bus Corridors is anticipated to redefine the commuting experience in Lagos, offering more reliable, safer, and efficient public transportation options. Moreover, the establishment of the Marina and Mile 2 interchanges will serve as critical nodes in Lagos’s transport network, facilitating smoother transitions between different modes of transportation and reducing overall travel times.

These projects underscore a broader commitment by the Lagos state government to enhance urban mobility, aiming to address the perennial challenges of traffic congestion and inadequate public transport facilities. Through improving the public transportation infrastructure, the initiative also seeks to promote sustainable urban development and improve the quality of life for Lagos residents.

As Lagos continues to grow, both in population and economic significance, such infrastructural upgrades are seen as essential steps towards creating a more resilient and inclusive city. The collaboration between LAMATA and AFD, coupled with the active involvement of the affected communities, highlights a model of participatory development that could set a precedent for future urban planning and transport
