Edo State Police Foil Election Violence Attempt, Arrest Two Political Thugs The Hype Naija

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two suspected political thugs. The arrests, which occurred just days before the state’s governorship election, highlight the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the electoral process.

According to a press statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects were identified as Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41. Obanor, a leader of an armed group, was apprehended at Oredo Ward 4 at around 9 p.m. on the eve of the election. Tajudeen, a Peoples Democratic Party member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, was also arrested at the same time.

Upon searching their belongings, police officers discovered a cache of dangerous weapons. Obanor was found to be in possession of three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols, while Tajudeen had one locally made gun. These weapons were believed to be intended for use in disrupting the electoral process.

The arrests serve as a clear message to those who may have been planning to resort to violence during the election. The Nigeria Police Force has made it abundantly clear that such actions will not be tolerated.

These arrests are a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process,” Adejobi stated. “The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State.”

The police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure a safe and peaceful electoral process. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the published helplines.

The police reassure the public of its dedication to protecting lives and property and, therefore, urges citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via our published helplines,” the statement added.
