Manchester United’s newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim has chosen to begin his tenure in familiar territory, taking up residence at the prestigious Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester – the same establishment that once housed his Portuguese predecessor Jose Mourinho during his memorable spell at Old Trafford.

The five-star Lowry Hotel, renowned for hosting A-list celebrities and distinguished guests, has become something of a traditional first home for incoming United managers. Mourinho’s extended 895-day stay at the luxury establishment, which ultimately resulted in a £500,000 bill, has become part of Manchester United folklore, and now Amorim is writing his own chapter in the hotel’s rich history.

Situated in a prime location with convenient access to both Old Trafford and United’s Carrington training complex, the Lowry Hotel offers Amorim a perfect base as he settles into his new role. The Presidential Suite, commanding £4,000 per night, provides the Portuguese tactician with the comfort and luxury befitting his position at one of football’s most prestigious clubs.

However, sources close to the club indicate that Amorim’s stay at the Lowry is intended to be temporary. The former Sporting CP manager is already actively searching for a permanent residence in Manchester’s upscale neighborhoods, with particular interest in the Hale and Bowdon areas, where many of his players, including Portuguese compatriot and team captain Bruno Fernandes, have established their homes.

A Manchester United insider revealed to the Daily Mail: “Amorim is eager to create a stable family environment in Manchester. He’s looking to bring his wife and two sons over, and establishing a permanent home is a top priority. The Hale and Bowdon areas are particularly appealing due to their proximity to the training ground and the existing football community there.

The source also noted that Amorim has been exploring his new surroundings, frequenting local cafes and familiarizing himself with Manchester’s vibrant city center. His chosen temporary residence puts him in the vicinity of other football personalities, including Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and several City players who have made the area their home.

The Lowry Hotel’s reputation extends far beyond the football world, having hosted an impressive array of international celebrities. Music icons such as Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Ariana Grande, and Kylie Minogue have all graced its corridors, contributing to its status as one of Manchester’s most prestigious addresses.

As Amorim settles into his new role, several housing options are potentially available to him, including the former residences of his predecessor Erik ten Hag and ex-United midfielder Paul Pogba. These properties would offer the privacy and security required for a Premier League manager while maintaining convenient access to United’s facilities.

The Portuguese manager’s journey at Manchester United has already begun on the field, with his first game resulting in a 1-1 draw. As he prepares for his upcoming Europa League fixture against Bodo/Glimt, Amorim’s choice of the Lowry Hotel as his temporary base demonstrates a practical approach to his transition, allowing him to focus on his immediate footballing responsibilities while planning for his family’s long-term settlement in Manchester.

The parallels between Amorim and Mourinho’s choice of accommodation add an intriguing narrative to the new manager’s arrival, though United supporters will be hoping their new boss’s tenure at the club proves more successful than his predecessor’s stay at the iconic hotel.
