Nigerian comedian Alibaba has expressed his views on the arrest of the well-known cross-dresser and self-proclaimed transgender, Bobrisky, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Alibaba’s commentary, tinged with sarcasm, sheds light on what he perceives as a double standard in the enforcement of laws regarding the mishandling of naira notes.

Bobrisky was taken into custody in Lagos for allegations related to the improper treatment of Nigerian currency at a social gathering. The arrest was specifically linked to charges of spraying and damaging naira notes, a practice that, while common at various events, has seen selective legal action.

Alibaba took to social media to underscore his point, posting an image showing men engaging in a similar act of spraying and stepping on currency notes. Through this juxtaposition, the comedian raised critical questions about gender and the application of justice, suggesting that the EFCC’s actions might be influenced by the gender of the individuals involved.

His post echoed concerns over what he sees as an unfair treatment of women, pointing out that Bobrisky’s arrest follows a pattern where female celebrities are penalized for actions that their male counterparts seemingly evade. Alibaba’s remarks hint at a deeper discourse on gender equality and the consistency of law enforcement in Nigeria.

“And Bobrisky was arrested for what again? Because they are men? This is not right,” Alibaba voiced, drawing attention to the discrepancy in how similar offenses are handled depending on the gender of the person involved. He further lamented, “The way we treat women in this country is not good. Mennnnn, I just taya,” highlighting his frustration with the systemic issues at play.

Alibaba’s intervention in the conversation surrounding Bobrisky’s arrest not only underscores the comedian’s concern for justice and equality but also invites a broader reflection on societal norms and legal practices in Nigeria. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these discussions will influence public opinion and potentially the approach of law enforcement towards similar cases in the future.
