The National Examinations Council (NECO) has made a landmark move by extending its examination services to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in the council’s history. This initiative kicks off with the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) being held internally at the Nigeria International School in Jeddah, which has been accredited as an international examination center for NECO.
The accreditation follows a thorough assessment of the school’s facilities by a delegation led by Dr. Yusuf Sununu, Minister of State for Education, and Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar of NECO. Their evaluation covered various aspects critical for hosting international examinations, including the examination halls, classrooms, laboratories, library, curriculum syllabus, and overall security.
Dr. Sununu highlighted the importance of the accreditation, ensuring that the Nigeria International School possesses the requisite teaching and learning facilities conducive to examination conditions. He also took the opportunity to encourage the staff and students to continue serving as exemplary ambassadors of Nigeria in Saudi Arabia and the broader Gulf States Cooperation Council.
This expansion into Saudi Arabia is part of NECO’s broader strategy to provide quality education and assessment services on an international scale, with other centers already established in Togo, Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger, and the Republic of Gabon.
As the first cohort of students in Saudi Arabia gears up to take the NECO SSCE, this development is celebrated as a significant achievement in the realm of education, symbolizing Nigeria’s commitment to educational excellence and accessibility worldwide.
