Investment in Education
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has approved the release of N309.5 million to fund the education of 86 state indigenes studying in foreign universities in India and Egypt. This financial commitment highlights the state’s investment in nurturing its young talent and providing them with international educational opportunities.
Breakdown of the Scholarship Fund
The state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar-Tunga, announced the details during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi. According to him, N228.1 million is allocated for 63 students in India, while N81.4 million will support 23 students in Egypt. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance the educational prospects of its youth through substantive financial support.
Timely Disbursement of Funds
The Commissioner also mentioned that there are 50 more foreign students who are expected to have their educational expenses settled promptly, ensuring that all beneficiaries receive their scholarships without undue delay. This move is consistent with the state government’s policy of timely disbursement of educational funds, reflecting a commitment to the academic continuity of its students abroad.
Ongoing Support for Local Students
In addition to the foreign scholarships, Governor Idris had previously released funds in February 2024 for local scholarships benefiting students across 36 tertiary institutions within the country. This comprehensive educational funding underscores the government’s dedication to supporting students at various levels of higher education, both domestically and internationally.
Positive Reception and Future Outlook
The educational community and beneficiaries have warmly received the news of these scholarships. The funding not only alleviates the financial burden on students and their families but also serves as a catalyst for academic excellence and professional development. Looking forward, the Kebbi State government‘s continued investment in education is likely to yield significant returns in the form of a highly educated and skilled workforce, capable of contributing effectively to the state’s development goals.
