The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, convened a significant meeting with senior police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, discussing the progress and strategic direction of the Nigeria Police Force. The assembly of top police managers, including Deputy Inspectors General of Police, members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Tactical Commanders, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in enhancing national security.
Notable Achievements
In an impressive display of law enforcement efficiency, the IGP reported the arrest of 3,685 suspects over an eight-week period, alongside the rescue of 401 kidnapped victims and the recovery of 216 firearms, 3,601 ammunition, and 82 vehicles. These achievements reflect the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to combating criminal activities across the nation.
Tribute to Fallen Officers
The IGP paid homage to the valor of six officers who lost their lives in an ambush in Ohoro Forest, Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, during a Special Operation. With nine suspects already detained in connection to the incident, the IGP assured relentless efforts in pursuing justice for the fallen heroes.
Welfare of Police Families
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the welfare initiatives for police personnel and their families. Notably, the IGP announced the disbursement of N7.2 billion in cheques to the families of 2,514 deceased officers over the past nine months, underscoring the force’s commitment to supporting its members and their loved ones.
Upcoming Events and Initiatives
Looking ahead, the IGP revealed plans for the Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony set for April 15, 2024, which will honor officers exhibiting exceptional bravery and dedication. Additionally, the NPF Housing Summit scheduled for April 22nd–23rd aims to address housing challenges faced by officers and will introduce the Police Fund. The Nigeria Police Green Initiative was also highlighted as a venture into renewable energy and community outreach in line with climate justice goals.
