Renowned Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has made a heartfelt plea to the public, urging them not to dwell on or question the deaths of movie stars. In a poignant message shared on her Instagram page, Edochie emphasized that death is an unavoidable part of life that spares no one, regardless of their profession or status.
Addressing the recurring queries about the mortality rate within the Nollywood community, Edochie expressed her frustration with questions like “What is happening in Nollywood?” She stressed that death is a universal truth, impacting all sectors of society equally. “Celebrities are humans as well; the same way other people in different walks of life die, that is the same way celebrities die too,” she remarked.
The veteran actress pointed out that the deaths of celebrities often attract more attention and evoke stronger reactions, whether positive or negative, due to their fame and the impact they have made in the entertainment industry. She questioned the logic behind singling out the deaths of filmmakers for scrutiny, comparing it to the inevitable demise that professionals in other fields also face.
“Are actors not humans too? Please, questions like this are annoying and ought to stop because death is only a displeasing call of nature,” Edochie wrote, calling for an end to speculative and insensitive inquiries regarding the passing of Nollywood figures.
Her message came as she mourned the loss of Nollywood legend Amaechi Muonagor, who passed away on Sunday, March 24, after battling a prolonged illness. At 62, Muonagor’s death has left a significant void in the industry and among those who knew him personally.
Reflecting on Muonagor’s life and legacy, Edochie shared her sorrow and admiration for the late actor. “It was too bad he couldn’t recover from this illness. Amaechi, ‘your departure has left an irreplaceable void in the midst of my family and I’. You were more than a brother and colleague; you were a beacon of light, illuminating our days with your infectious laughter and unwavering kindness,” she added, highlighting the profound impact Muonagor had on those around him.
Through her message, Rita Edochie seeks to remind everyone that death is a natural and inevitable part of the human experience, urging respect and sensitivity towards those grieving the loss of loved ones, regardless of their celebrity status.
